Born in Melbourne in 1954, Lyn has always had an interest in painting and
drawing. After completing a Diploma of Teaching at Burwood and a B.A. at
Monash University, she moved to country Victoria where she taught in schools in
the Ballarat area. Retaining her love of art however, she
chose to leave teaching and has now been painting full-time for several years.
Lyn is largely a self-taught
artist. Her meticulous studies of wildlife are usually executed in a
mixture of watercolour and gouache. After preliminary sketches, the
subject is drawn in pencil on to watercolour paper. The background is then
completed. An airbrush is often used to achieve a soft, out-of-focus look.
Work then begins on the main subject. Detail is gradually built up using
very fine brushwork. Many layers may be required to achieve the desired
result.
The bushland setting of
her home provides Lyn with many of her painting subjects. Additional
inspiration comes from regular trips to other parts of Australia. Her keen
interest in flora and fauna, particularly Australian birds, is reflected in her
paintings.
Lyn has been the
recipient of numerous art awards and is represented in private collections
throughout Australia and in many other countries. Her work has been
featured on television and in the print media and paintings have been reproduced
on calendars and as limited edition prints.
